How Traveling Affects Cultural Perception

By Marianne Hartshorne / October 11, 2026 / No Comments / Author News

What does traveling teach us about other cultures? 🌍

I’ve only had the opportunity to travel to one country outside the United States: Egypt. But that experience taught me something I carry with me whenever I think about different cultures.

Every culture is unique.

Different traditions. Different foods. Different clothing. Different languages. Different ways of interacting with one another.

And I find that fascinating.

Learning about another culture opens my mind to the many ways people experience life. It reminds me that there isn’t just one way to live, communicate, celebrate, or see the world.

But as different as our cultures may be, I’ve also discovered something that connects us all.

The heart. ❤️

You may not understand someone’s language, but you can understand a smile.

You may not share the same customs, but you can recognize a tear.

You may come from completely different backgrounds, but you can still understand joy, sadness, love, fear, hope, and compassion.

Those emotions are part of what makes us human.

Perhaps that is what fascinates me most about traveling and learning about other cultures.

We can be so different on the outside, yet share so much within.

To me, that is truly special—and pretty amazing. 🌎❤️
