Welcome! I’m Marianne Hartshorne, a historical fiction author with a passion for history, ancient civilizations, and the stories that connect us to the past. Through my writing, I bring history and imagination together to explore worlds beyond our own.
My Story
I’m a historical fiction author with a deep curiosity about the past and the people who shaped it. I’ve always been fascinated by history, ancient civilizations, architecture, and the stories hidden within historical artifacts. For me, history is more than a collection of dates and events. It’s an opportunity to explore different cultures, understand how people lived, and imagine the experiences that shaped their worlds.
My fascination with ancient Egypt grew even stronger when I visited the country in 2011. Standing among its remarkable historical sites and ancient monuments left a lasting impression on me and sparked a desire to learn more about this extraordinary civilization. That experience continues to inspire my writing and research today.
My journey as a writer began in earnest in 2017. Since then, writing has become a creative pursuit that allows me to combine my curiosity about history with my love of storytelling. My work draws on historical research and imagination to transport readers to other times and places, where the past becomes a world of possibilities.
I’m currently working on Away From Home, the first novel in my planned Sands of Time series. Blending time travel, ancient Egyptian history, mystery, and adventure, the novel follows a young woman whose journey takes an unexpected turn when she finds herself in ancient Egypt. As she navigates an unfamiliar world, she must learn to survive in a civilization vastly different from her own while searching for a way home.
My path as a writer hasn’t always been easy. Balancing writing with family responsibilities and the other demands of life has taught me patience, perseverance, and the importance of continuing to work toward a goal, even when progress feels slow. My journey has reinforced my belief that meaningful accomplishments often require time, dedication, and a willingness to keep moving forward.
When I’m not writing or researching, I enjoy learning about ancient civilizations, exploring history, and discovering the traditions and perspectives that make different cultures unique. I’m endlessly curious about the world and the stories that connect us across generations.
Through my writing, I hope to share that curiosity with readers and inspire them to look at history in new ways. Whether exploring an ancient civilization or imagining a journey through time, I want my stories to remind readers that the past still has much to teach us—and countless stories left to tell.

I’m currently working on Away From Home, the first novel in my Sands of Time series. When a young woman’s journey to Egypt takes an unexpected turn, she finds herself transported to ancient Egypt during the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten. Surrounded by an unfamiliar culture, royal intrigue, and dangerous secrets, she must find her way through a world far removed from her own.
Through the Sands of Time series, I hope to share my love of ancient history while inviting readers to imagine what it would be like to step into the past.
