Never Give Up

What Writing a Novel Taught Me About Perseverance
Writing a novel has taught me that perseverance doesn’t always look like sitting at your desk for hours every day.
Sometimes, perseverance looks like coming back to your story after weeks—or even months—away from it.
I’ve been working on my novel for nine years, and I’m still not finished.
Over those nine years, writing has had to share space with marriage, raising a family, housework, medical appointments, and all the unexpected responsibilities that come with life.
There were days when I wanted nothing more than to write, but simply didn’t have the time or energy.
There were also days when I questioned whether I should continue at all.
At one point, I came very close to giving up on my book.
But I didn’t.
I kept returning to the story.
Sometimes I wrote. Sometimes I edited. Sometimes I stepped away and came back with a fresh perspective. And sometimes, simply believing that I would eventually finish was enough to keep me moving forward.
Nine years later, my book is still a work in progress—but so is my journey as an author.
I’ve learned that perseverance isn’t about moving forward quickly. It’s about refusing to let a slow journey convince you that you’re not making progress.
My goal is still the same: to see this book through to publication—and beyond.
And I’m still going. 📖
